Caremark not shipping insulin with cold packs

I am furious! My daughter's insulin was shipped (via US postal regular mail) from Miramar Florida to Virginia on May 22nd and delivered May 29th without a cold pack to simulate refrigeration. My daughter has had diabetes for 11 years, and every insulin shipment she has received has been shipped with a cold pack. The manufacturers label says: REFRIGERATE. I contacted Lilly, the manufacturer, and they said they have received many complaints about this, and it is against their recommendation and the FDA's recommendation to ship insulin without refrigeration. I contacted Caremark and was basically read this policy by the pharmacist (also posted on their website) "Please do not be concerned if your order no longer includes a cold gel pack. Before we ship extreme temperature-sensitive medications, our improved system will check the forecast temperature of the city where the medication will be delivered. • If it's going to be under 32° Fahrenheit or over 85° Fahrenheit, we will ship using a method that requires signature upon delivery. Once the order is shipped, the plan participant will receive a phone call from us to let them know it is on the way. • If the temperature is between 32° Fahrenheit and 85° Fahrenheit, we will ship using regular delivery. • If no one is there to sign for the medication, the carrier will leave a note with instructions, telling the plan participant to either schedule another delivery day or pick it up directly from the carrier. How can they get away with this? REFRIGERATE means REFRIGERATE. How many hot trucks , planes, etc, did this insulin sit in and go to unknown temperatures?I f my daughter's insulin is not working properly to keep her blood glucose down because it was supposed to be refrigerated and it wasn't, and she suffers damage to her organs, or has DKA, or God forbid dies, that is a huge medical liability. How do you go about filing a class action lawsuit? I would love to hear from others who have experienced this, and who are interested in having Caremark stop their practice of shipping insulin without cold packs.

Only 4 more weeks to Sanibel Island

I'm counting down the days to Sanibel Island. I've been reading everyone else's blogs, and thinking about where I want to go, and what I want to do. Most of all I'm looking forward to relaxing on the beach, taking endless walks, finding beautiful seashells, and spending time with my family without the hassles of everyday life. I plan to renew my spirit, find some inner peace, and of course, catch all the spectacular sunsets. Life has thrown our family some big curveballs these last few months, and this vacation is so important to me in regaining some peace of mind. I can't wait...

Sanibel Island this summer

We'll be going to Sanibel Island for the first time ever this summer, and I'm looking for locals or other Sanibel lovers to tell me what they like to do, where to eat, where to shop, etc. We're interested in a boat excursion - I read about someone else who took a boating trip and had brunch on some other little island - that would be cool. We are staying at the Sanibel Beach Club, so anyone that has stayed there or knows the place, feel free to post a review. Thanks so much!

I would love to hear from locals or others who love Sanibel, and tell me the best places to eat, shop, play, and anything else you'd like to add. We'd like to take some type of boating adventure - I read on someone else's blog about a boating excursion that took them to some little island for brunch. We'll be staying at Sanibel Beach Club on a RCI exchange, so anyone that has stayed there please feel free to respond with a review - thanks so much!

Siesta Key Vacation

Vacation at Siesta Key is just a little over a month away! I can't wait - the past year has been very stressful, and I am looking forward to the beach, the sun, the scenes and some great food. Anyone out there want to comment and tell me your favorite things about Siesta Key?
